About vault

Where History Meets Community.

Since 2014, Vault Coffee has been more than a place to grab a drink — it’s a cornerstone of downtown Coeur d’Alene, built on history, connection, and care.

The Building That Started It All

1904 — The Beginning of the Vault Story

Our story begins inside the historic Exchange Bank building, established in 1904 — a space where money once changed hands, and stories began. When we opened Vault Coffee in 2014, we knew this place carried more than bricks and mortar. It carried legacy.

Today, the vault door still stands as a symbol of what we value most — the people who walk through it.

The Meaning Behind the Name

More Than a Coffee Shop Name

“Vault” honors the spirit of this building’s past, but it also represents something bigger — a safe place for everyone. Whether you’re a local, a traveler, a student, or a family, Vault is where you’re always welcome.

To us, the greatest assets aren’t kept behind a door — they’re the people who gather here every day.

A Place for Everyone

A Table for
Every Story

Over the years, we’ve seen first dates turn into anniversaries, college students become regulars, and families stop in before heading to the park. The heart of Vault is found in those moments — in the laughter, the connection, and the conversations that make this city what it is.

We don’t just serve coffee. We serve community.

I have found my new favorite coffee place in CdA! I had a few hours to spare before heading back home to Moscow, and I stumbled into Vault. I noticed for $13 once could purchase a flight of seasonal iced coffees. Five glasses at 4oz each? Sure, why not?

A cute bank themed coffee shop with comfy seating, window stools or small tables. They have something for everyone with their large seasonal menu, it has at least 9 different drinks on it. They also offer tea, bottled drinks and some great food options. Highly recommended, skip the big chain coffee shop and stop in go somewhere local and delicious

Great place for coffee aficionados! I especially love the Charlie Brown hot drink with pumpkin spice and Mexican chocolate. It’s very subtle unlike many pumpkin spice drinks in general. I find their soft seats extremely cozy and inviting.

Very good coffee, and I love the vibe of the place. My wife had the Sleigh Ride (Orange vanilla and cardamom I think) and she said it was the best cup of coffee she’s ever had, and that’s saying something. I had an eggnog latte, very good.

We found this coffee shop on our way home from Montana and I’m so glad we did! The coffee was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was cozy, and the scones were super tasty! Our new favorite anytime we are in the area, highly recommended!
